According to Moonalice Legend...
|
On February 16, 1980, a young Chubby invited the beautiful Miss Blue on a first date. He invited her to see the Jerry Garcia Band, to which the lovely Miss B. -- who was completing a Ph.D. in music theory at the time -- queried, "And what instrument does Mr. Garcia play?" As is so often the case with Moonalice legend, many other details of that momentous evening were lost in clouds of smoke (hemp?) and time (28 years).

That was a great story from you and Blue's past!
Though I've been living in CO for a long time, my husband and I were both born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn in the 1950s - 70's. (Park Slope). My sister fixed me up with my husband Thom in 1971. She said that we were both crazy and perfect for each other! ;-) We moved to CO in 1973 (ski-bumming), and eventually got married in 1981. In 1976, when we had to move back to NYC for a few years as Colorado's economy bottomed out at that time. (We moved back to CO in 1985.)
To make a short story long, 1976 was the year that my husband took me to my very 1st GD concert at Colt Park in Hartford, CT. Though Thom was primarily a Jefferson Airplane fan, (seeing lots of their shows at the Fillmore East in the 60's), he insisted that I see the GD as I would love their live jams. (vs. just hearing them on an LP) And I did!!! Needless to say, I was hooked and went to dozens of shows over the years, including all their Radio City Music Hall shows in NYC.
Thanks Chubby for reminiscing about you and Ann and the GD (Jerry), as it brought back some really warm memories about Thom and myself too! The GD had a way of bringing a lot of people together! (BTW, MA does that too!)

Actually I'm glad Teresa and I were already living together when she fell asleep at her first Dead Show, about 25 feet from the Wall of Sound... The first of many nice naps she's had at shows, at least we always knew where the coats were...
Lots of "kitchen synchronicity" (with a nod to Wavy G.), there, PepperMoonalice: I am from NYC, live in CO, and saw my first Dead show in '76 (Beacon Theatre). Waiting, with my fiancee, Sunflower Moonalice, for more Colorado shows.
Haven't seen one since Jack Casady was in the band...
