Moonalice single is first to go multi-platinum from a band’s own servers

For Immediate Release:

On the afternoon of April 20, 2012, Bay area band Moonalice went boldly where no band has gone before when its signature single, "It's 4:20 Somewhere" passed 2 million downloads from the band’s website. The feat is remarkable considering that the band has no label, no manager or publicist.

The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame has certified "It's 4:20 Somewhere" as the only platinum single - one million downloads - from a band's own servers. It is now the first multi-platinum single from a band's servers.

Moonalice is a band of seasoned musicians who feel that live music should be a communal experience where the listener and musicians feed and derive energy and inspiration from each other. Their songs try to speak to everyone, mixing a variety of genres with extended musical improvisations that evoke a sense of adventure, exploration and discovery.

Written by Ann McNamee, G.E. Smith, Anonymous, and Roger McNamee, “It’s 4:20 Somewhere,” was recorded and mixed by Dave Way, and appears on the Moonalice EP, Dave’s Way #1, which was released in January of 2011. The FLAC version can be downloaded for free at http://moonalice.bit.ly/2uZpcY

Roger McNamee (Bass, Guitar and Vocals), aka Chubby Wombat Moonalice, has long pioneered the use of social networks and other technology in music, with innovations such as Twittercast concerts and Moonalice radio on Twitter, live HD Moonbeam (video) concerts and the Couch Tour, which enables fans to watch every Moonalice show live and in HD. The band’s website archive enables fans to listen to any song or any show at any time on a smartphone without an app.

Moonalice trades music for the time and attention of fans, and freely shares the details of their technological innovation with those that are interested. The band recently gave a master class and concert at Yale, where they gave a “Build A Band Workshop” to students and music faculty. The master class can be found at: http://www.moonalice.com/tour/2012-04-03/yale-university-master-class-co....
