Bread & Roses - Hope and Healing through Live Music
Bread & Roses is dedicated to uplifting the human spirit by providing free, live, quality entertainment to people who live in institutions or are otherwise isolated from society. Performances enrich the soul and promote wellness through the healing power of the performing arts; create a sense of community for our professional performers, in a non-commercial setting in which they can donate their talents to inspire and be inspired; provide an opportunity for non-performing volunteers to contribute a variety of skills and resources that support our humanitarian services and increase the impact of donor contributions.
Pete Sears used to play with Bread & Roses founder Mimi Fariña and recorded an album with her in the early 80's called "Watchfire." Moonalice played an upbeat Bread & Roses concert for the veterans at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park on Labor Day 2011, as well as an enormously uplifting show at the Delancey Street Foundation in San Francisco on April 19, 2011.
Chubby remembers the Delancey Street Bread & Roses Benefit, "April 19 was a very special day. We played a gig for the beautiful people at Delancey Street, an amazing resident recovery program on San Francisco's waterfront. We agreed that it was the most appreciative audience we had ever played to. If you wonder what that sounds like, listen to the show. It was only an hour long, but what an hour . . . To everyone at Delancey Street and Bread & Roses . . . thank you!!!!! Our lives are richer for the evening we shared."
