American Dream Rag

an anthem for Occupy Wall Street

Words and lyrics by Roger McNamee

I've been out of work since the bank shut down
They shipped our jobs to China, left behind our town
Tumbleweed rollin' through, it feels like we've all been screwed

Every day's a struggle but we get by
They took everything we have, we don't cry
We can't afford to drink, but we still get high
Livin' the American dream

Politicians say In Banks We Trust
They gave em all the money that once belonged to us
In the name of red white and blue
It feels like we all been screwed

Every day's a struggle but we get by
They took everything we have, we don't cry
We can't afford to drink, but we still get high
Livin' the American dream

We used to have insurance and a steady job
But our banker bought the business with intent to rob
He closed all the factories, shuttered every store
The thousands out of work make his stock worth more

(solo)

Debt and unemplyment we got up the wazoo
Change we can believe in is long overdue
It's past time to sing the blues
It feels like we all been screwed

Every day's a struggle but we get by
They took everything we have, we don't cry
We can't afford to drink, but we still get high
Livin' the American dream

Every day's a struggle but we get by
They took everything we have, we don't cry
We can't afford to drink, but we still get high
Livin' the American dream
Livin' the American dream
Livin' the American dream

My 2 cents: very cool lyrics and music....what scares me more is that if we go out and protest, we are considered PUNY TERRORISTS by the Establishment....if we don't, we are considered dumbasses by the same Establishment....this is a tuff cookie to tackle folks.....NO doubt:). What comes to my MYnde right now is the Who tune......"we won't get fooled again" (which is still in vogue today!!!!!!) and the Cream tune "we're going wrong":):):)!!!!
Keep on keepin' on good hard working folk :):):)

banks , car companys ,ect are private companys. they can operate anyway they choose ,as long as the public will use their services. if big government ,Obama and his people want to give out bail outs ,until we are broke ,will need to stop them. No poor man has ever been able to hire anyone, it takes rich people, business, to do that. take away their money ,their profits and you and i have no jobs or no money.Even if the banks have no bail outs or not, will not give any of us any more money in our pockets. the only thing that will give anyone some money ,is to work hard and hope the rich, and business do well so they can give us a job. the government never has any money of it own,it never generates any at all. the government only has our tax dollars to spend and blow .so if the government give a bunch of people money it would only be giving away our own tax dollars they have taken from us working people, the rich, and private business. so quit blaming wall street, they are private business also along with the banks. blame the government ,socialist agendas , Obama ,and the democrats.
